A ground floor extension and first floor addtion to this heritage listed sandstone terrace in Waverley provides an addtional bedroom, ensuite, bathroom and study upstairs. A light filled and extensively glazed connection links this pavilion to the existing stone building. At ground floor level a new living area is located adjacent to the back yard. A new galley style kitchen has side access to a deck within a light well area. A new bathroom and laundry facilities are provided downstairs. A compact elevator ensures ease of access upstairs. New storage areas are provided within the existing roof space.

A parapet conceals an array of solar photovoltaic panels on the roof. A compact rainwater tank and bin storage facilities are concealed in the rear yard.

Approval for this renovation was obtained from Waverley Council in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

The passageways which connect the two level pavilion to the existing stone terrace are reduced to a minimum width so as to minimise the demolition of the heritage structure. A glazed roof shelters the light well shared with a neighbouring building. External louvres provide privacy.

Sunshade "eyelids" improve thermal performance on the western face of the pavilion. Battened sheet cladding features on the extension.

A glazed awning roof shelters the ground floor doors and windows.

A substantial tree is retained in this compact rear yard. A rainwater tank is provided (centre left) and an enclosure for waste bins and storage (lower left)

The roof of the passageway connecting the pavilion to the existing stone terrace steps down in height to avoid unnecessary demolition of the existing metal roof.

An extensive array of solar photovoltaic panels on the roof are screened from view at street level by a parapet.

Apart from remedial work to clean sandstone and repair carpentry, the 1866 workers terrace remains unaltered as viewed from the street.
