MOUNT ALBERT HOUSE 1

Adding a pavillion in the rear yard of this freestanding Mount Albert (NZ) house improves outdoor accessibility and provides addtional open plan living areas. A swimming pool set within a hardwood deck with sheltered entertaining areas enhances enjoyment of the rear yard. The renovations include an ensuite, two bathrooms and kitchen.

With the existing garage already used for storage, a carport is added in the front yard to provide shelted parking and entry to the building. This new parking is excavated into the slope of the yard and surrounded by extensive planting to screen the carport from the street, minimising the visual impact. A small deck at the front provides views over the carport to the western ranges and afternoon sun.

A rear pavilion, with lounge and dining areas,is added to this 1950s brick and tile home in Mount Albert, Auckland. Decking is provided on the north side (right), with a glazed pergola for shelter. A swimming pool is provided on the east side of the pavilion. The end wall of the pavilion is clad in plywood rain screen, to match the soffits and ceilings.

The existing house lacks shelter outdoor areas, adequate views to the rear yard and sufficient internal amenity.

Extensive landscaping is provided in the front yard to screen the proposed carport.

The 1950s brick and tile home lacked covered parking and sheltered entry.

A carport, added to the front yard, is excavated into the natural slope of the land. Extensive planting is also provided to reduce the visual impact of the proposed carport. A small elevated deck provides views of the western ranges.

A standing seam covered pavilion, housing a kitchen, family living area and pantry is added in the back yard. A link room with extensive skylights, located between the pavilion and the existing tiled house provides an airy dining area.

Extensive landscaping is provided in the front yard to screen the proposed carport.

Timber decking and landscaping connect the main outdoor entertaining area to a new bathroom and remodelled bedrooms within the existing house.

A gas fireplace, barbecue, polycarbonate roof sheeting and retractable clear plastic curtains allow the use of the deck area adjacent to the new pavilion.
