BONDI BEACH HOUSE 1

An upper level addition to this semi-detached Bondi house provided two extra bedrooms, an ensuite and a large study. Alterations to the ground floor provided a rumpus room and a large open plan lounge/dining/kitchen area with wide access to a shaded northern deck. Approval for this renovation was obtained from Waverley Council in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.

The alterations wrap the upper floor addition in a recycled timber frame with louvre panels all around. The louvres conceal a private northern balcony at the rear

A “Solar Chimney” provides light and ventilation and a delineating form on the roof.

The open plan area has a 1960s retro theme with amber glass splashback windows and mahogany kitchen joinery

High light windows above the wide doorway to the deck provide permanent and secure natural ventilation at all times

A batten balustrade partially encloses the stairway (right)
