Newtown house

This extensive renovation of a terrace house within a Heritage Conservation Area brings the principal indoor living area to the same level as the courtyard. This alignment permits opening of the interior to the yard creating a larger area for a young family’s recreation. A garage with studio overhead has rear lane access. A third floor bedroom is added within the main roof space.
External louvres and opaque glass provide solar control and privacy at the three storey glazed stairway which separates new from old.
Skylights and clerestory windows illuminate the kitchen.
The existing courtyard made access from within the house difficult.
